How working on her branding changed her business — Online Therapist

by Jan 17, 2022

There’s so much branding can do for your business. Which I have and will continue to write about in this blog. But I also want you to hear it from small business owners – like you.

Entrepreneurs who have started their business to be able to do what they love doing while supporting a lifestyle they desire. They are in different stages of their business journey, with their own challenges and struggles, who have done the brand strategy work and can tell you about the transformation it has brought to their business and their lives as business owners.

When we started working together, Kelsey was an online therapist supporting expats to navigate the challenges of living abroad. Things were going well on the surface but deep down Kelsey’s calling was a very different niche. During us working together she found her confidence to embrace what she was really passionate about. She is now an outstanding therapist and leading expert in her niche of religious trauma and adverse religious experiences.

Read on and find out how working on her branding has changed her business.

Z : How has your business changed since we worked on your branding together?

K : Since doing your program my business has been so much more consistent in all areas.

I was able to develop a website that accurately portrays who I am and what I am about.

My social media is an extension of this and I have let go of trying to be everything to everyone.

Over half of my clients are in my niche and this is slowly increasing. People from all over the world are starting to find me organically online and they are ready to work together once they reach out. This has been a big change, as I rarely need to ‘sell’ myself in any way because they see that I am providing a niche service that they already feel connected to.

Z : How do you feel about your business now vs before you started the program?

K : My experience of myself as an entrepreneur has changed a lot.

I am a lot less overwhelmed and I am able to resist getting pulled in by all of the options and then rerailing my own progress.

I feel much more able to discern how I should spend my time based on my own values and which opportunities are not the right fit.

Pairing down what I am about has made me be able to spot those opportunities that, although they are great initiatives, they do not fall into my containers nor further the goals of my business.

Z : How do you feel when showing up in your business, networking, filtering clients and business opportunities – vs how you used to feel in these situations?

K : A lot better! I still get a bit frazzled at times, but overall I feel so much more grounded in my business and okay with whatever happens.

I have been upfront with a few people/organisations that I don’t have the capacity to join in whatever they were wanting me to join and I feel empowered by turning them down.

This is also a sign that I don’t live in scarcity and trust that the right opportunities/clients will come along at the right time.

I’ve participated in about 5 or 6 events where I am the ‘guess therapist’ and offer a workshop or short training; I still don’t enjoy these types of settings, but I have done well with it. I have even gotten paid to do this, which still blows my mind.

Z : What is something you gained during the program that is still helping you and your business today?

K : Recognition that I can’t/don’t need to do it all and commitment instead to my values and mission.

Also, coming to terms with not liking certain parts of social media and allowing myself to just not do those, or do them minimally.

Understanding the value of a clear niche and actually just sticking to that. It is super interesting how people outside of my niche still somehow find themselves in my copy (or they don’t read my website before reaching out, which is okay, too).

Z : Anything else you’d like to share about how your business and you as a business owner have evolved since doing the program?

K : I have had the first experiences of potential clients knowing 100% going into the free consultation that they want to work with me. At times it seems like they want to convince ME that I should offer one of my limited spots to them. It is a new dynamic!

I have the most full-pay clients I have ever had! Previously, full pay was the exception and sliding scale the norm, but it is the opposite now. I also work less than I used to. In a typical week I see clients 8am-1:15pm Monday-Thursday and then do whatever I want after that (sometimes business-related; other times not). I only make social media posts on Friday mornings IF I want to and feel inspired to make something.

My partner and I are in the process of buying a farm and I am excited to keep the same client schedule and then spend my afternoons gardening and taking care of animals, etc.
